(Here I am on MY NEW SOFA. HEHE!)

Welcome to MY very own webpage. I was given the name Lady when I was found wandering the streets and came into Rescue A Golden of Arizona as a stray. Ed took me in on October 17, 2005. The name “Lady” doesn’t really fit me so much (Tomboy might be more appropriate), so Ed is trying to come up with something more appropriate, but until then, Lady will be it (actually it’s starting to grow on him). As I mentioned, I was a stray, and I had a small puppy with me when I was found. I would have loved for Ed to take us both in, but I just don’t think he has the time right now for two dogs. I try to be a big sweetheart, but sometimes I get into trouble (not intentionally). I just love to be petted, and I like to pile all my toys up on the sofa. I don’t really play with them; just pile them up, so I know where they are at all times, just in case I get the urge to play. I’m full of energy (more than Ed), which is probably what he needs in a companion, so we take walks together, and I love going for rides.

Ed gets mad at me cuz I don’t walk so well on a leash, but I’m trying to learn. Please be patient with me. I just love all kinds of people. Old people, young people, miniature people in strollers. I just love them all, and if they start petting me, I’ll sit there for hours, and I really adore belly-rubs. I like being close to Ed. He’s a pretty good human to have around, so I stick to him like Velcro. Maybe that should be my name…

Ed had 3 cats when I came to live with him and one is a real bitch. She snarls at me and hisses, so I just keep my distance and we get along splendidly. I like Ed’s Mom’s dog, Zak. He’s a little Chihuahua, and he’s a real gentleman.

I learned a few things from my previous owners, and I am especially good at sitting. When the leash is brought out, I sit perfectly still until it’s hooked up. When we run or walk, and we come to a stop I will sit down. My previous owners worked hard on that one, and they were quite successful at it. I will lay down on command, but that’s just an excuse to roll over on my back for belly-rubs, which isn’t exactly what I should be doing, but it’s what I want to do.

One thing I don’t like is the word NO because I know I’m doing something I shouldn’t, but like I said earlier, I’m learning. After all, this is a new home for me. I’ve gotten into the garbage a couple times, and both times I was caught red-handed (or red-pawed). I don’t like digging and I will bark once in awhile, just to see if my barker still works. I ain’t never seen a doggie door before now, but that’s one slick human invention. Thanks for putting that in the door for me.

On November 11, 2005, Ed took me to the vet. It seems that when I got to Ed’s house, I had some gunk in my left eye. I didn’t think anything of it because I was crying all weekend after the doctor spayed me, but Ed thought something wasn’t right. It stopped after about a week, but my eye still itches a lot, and Ed noticed I kept winking at him (I wasn’t flirtin’, really). Anyhow, the Doctor said my eyelashes are growing on the wrong side of my eye lids and I’m gonna have to have surgery to fix it. I never knew any different, so maybe now I’ll find out what it’s like to be able to open my eyes wide. I have some medicine that Ed puts in my eyes a couple times a day and it makes it feel a little better. I’ll let you know how the surgery goes, but until then, why don’t you come over and play?

On December 5, 2005, I had my eye surgery. Boy, what a miserable experience. Ed thought it was funny when they told him my eyes could swell up as big as tennis balls. I didn’t think it was all that funny. Humans have a weird sense of humor.

Anyhow, the surgery went pretty good, or so I’m told. It was really scary. When I woke up, I didn’t know where I was, or what had happened, and, to be honest with you, I just freaked out. Somewhere in there, I bumped my nose and had a bloody nose for a couple hours, on and off. I’m all better now in that regards.

Well, after the surgery they put stitches in my eyes so that I can’t open them up. I guess that’s so they’ll heal better, but it sure is annoying, and they sure do itch a lot, which brings me to my current problem. They put this funny plastic lampshade on my head, and it just keeps getting in the way all the time. Ed laughs at me when I bump into things, so I make sure when I’m near that I bump into him, too. Ask him, he’ll be more than happy to show you the bruises on his legs. HEHE!

Ed said I had to put a couple pictures of me with my lampshade on up on the webpage, so here they are. The first picture is the day of the surgery, right after I got home. The second is the next day as I was waiting to be let back in the house. Ed thinks I should be able to open the doggie door and let myself in. It’s more fun when he lets me in, so I go outside often (boy, do I ever have him wrapped around my dewclaw).

This last picture is the best. Ed’s sister said I reminded her of a tollbooth (whatever that is). She said she had the urge to throw change at me. How stupid is that? Well, Ed got to thinking, and it being Christmastime and all, he could use a little extra money for Christmas shopping. Anyhow, yesterday when we were walking we went up to the freeway and he made me stand there in hopes that people would throw money at us. Well, they didn’t, thank goodness, but I sure felt silly. Please don’t let him ever do that to me again.

Well, I guess that’s all I have to say about my surgery. I go on the 19th to get my stitches out, and, hopefully, I can take the lampshade off as well. I’ll let you know how it goes.

March, 2006: It’s been a couple months since my surgery, and it’s great being able to open my eyes all the way. WOW! I never realized what I was missing

In January, Ed wanted to take to an event called Bark In The Park in Ahwatukee, and thought a bath was a good idea. Boy did I ever let him know how I felt about baths. He got out the big green snake and used it to pour water all over me, and then he put that sudsy stuff all over me, and it felt good when he rubbed it all in, but then he took the green snake and got me all wet again. I got even by rolling in the mud. WOW! Was he ever mad at me. He came at me again with the snake and wet me down one more time. This time I waited for him to go into the house, and when he came back out with more clean towels, I had rolled in the mud again. Then he got that thing he calls a hair-dryer and dried me off, without rinsing me again. I guess that was his way of getting even. I had dried mud in my hair. I would have never gone out in public looking like that, but, guess what? Here he comes with the leash, which means we’re going somewhere. I just sat there, waiting for him to rinse the mud off again, but he didn’t. He put the leash on me and made me get in the truck. OH, how embarrassing. We went to Petsmart. He took me to some lady and told her what happened and then he left me with her. He didn’t even look back. Well, to make a long story short, she, too, had a green snake and there was no place for me to roll this time, and she used that blow-dryer thing on me again.

A few hours later, Ed came back for me. I was SOOO happy. He rescued me. On the way out of the store, Ed said I could have a new toy. The lady working in the store showed him one that she said a lot of dogs like, and he handed to me. I took it and carried it to the counter so he could pay for it. I wasn’t about to let it go. I earned it. It’s now my favorite toy.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve written anything. Well, I’ve been trying to write, but I just can’t hit the keys, so I have to depend on Ed to help me, and he’s been so busy rescuing other Golden Retrievers that I just hate to bother him.

I think what I want to talk about at this point is my Aunt’s miniature Chihuahua. That dog was put on this earth to terrorize all the other dogs, and it does a good job, as you can see in the picture.

Other news is that the weather is cooler and we’re once again going for more walks, and Ed is taking me in the car more often. Maybe I should have a talk with him about moving to cooler country.
