Internet Home of
Ed Karsten
Welcome to K9EDK.com, my home on the Internet. I recently changed Internet providers and decided to also
change the look of my page. All of the links and pages that were here before have returned, although they
may look a bit different. Before tackling this project, I had a hard drive failure on my computer and lost quite a
few pictures, perhaps thousands. I am doing what I can to recover some of it, and I think I have a back-up
disc around here somewhere, but I've obviously put it in a safe place, safe even from me.

I guess I should at least tell you something about me. My name is Ed Karsten and I live in Tempe, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix. I can't
say I love the desert, but I can say I hate snow, so this is probably the best place for me for now. If there's someplace where there's no
snow, no hot weather, lush green lawns and trees, it's probably too crowded and too expensive for me to live there, so I'll stay here for
now.

First of all, I'm a dispatcher for the Phoenix Fire Department in Phoenix, Arizona, and have been since 1981 and I'm still plugging along.
I've considered retiring, but haven't yet as I still like what I do and nobody's told me I'm not doing it well, so until such time as the
Alzheimer's kicks in, I'm probably gonna keep doing this.

Now here is where my life might interest you, my hobbies. I have several hobbies that I'll be sharing in my pages, but first and foremost,
and the one that I try to keep current more than any others is Ham Amateur (Ham) Radio. I keep a list of upcoming events,
conventions, training and Hamfests in Arizona. I'm dedicating to working public service events and to provide emergency
communications in the event that we ever have the need in or near Phoenix. Please take a look around the Ham Radio page. If you
think you might me interested in becoming a Ham Radio Operator, please feel free to contact me, or you can follow the link on the Ham
Radio page to the ARRL.

Besides Ham Radio, I'm also involved in Golden Retriever rescue and I've been the transport coordinator for
Rescue A Golden of
Arizona
since 2005. Besides being the transport coordinator, I've also served on the Board in a couple positions, but I'm presently
enjoying my time away from the politics involved with being a board member. After I retire and have more free time, I may consider
once again holding a position on the Board.

I guess you're probably wondering who I am and why I have my own web page. Well, I'm gonna answer the second part first. I have my
own web page because I have way too much free time on my hands and love the challenge. Now, if you believe that, we need to talk
about this bridge I need to get rid of...
I'm also a fire buff, of sorts, and I love taking fire photos, as well as photos of fire apparatus
and fire stations. I will try to keep some current photos of each on this site. I've also
considered setting up a page where others will be able to post their photos. So, if this
sounds like something you'd be interested in, drop me an email at
ed@k9edk.com and we
can work on this.

Over the years I've had a few companions of the four-legged variety, and as time allows, I
will put them on here. As of today (05/13/09) I have a Golden Retriever, Lady, and three
cats, Biggie, Calliope, and Shadow.
I am proud to be a member of the following organizations.

Revised 05/11/2011
NEW!!!                            NEW!!!                            NEW!!!                           NEW!!!
As of March 1, 2011, I have retired from the Phoenix Fire Department. I
was planning to retire on May 30th, but moved the date up because of
medical problems that I needed to devote all my time to.
The photos from my May vacation, as well as the photos from my September vacation, are not up on the website. Just follow the
Photo Library link to the left. The September vacation included 5 days at the National Carousel Association Convention (Hoofbeats in
the Rockies) in and around Denver, Colorado. After all I've been through this year, it was really nice to be able to sneak out of town,
not once, but twice.
Also new is Neutron's Web Page. Neutron is my new child. He looks just like me, balding and grey. He came to live with me in
September, 2011 and we bonded almost immediately. Visit his page by clicking on the link to the left.
